The River of Doubt: Into the Unknown Amazon by Candice Millard

This book describes the journey of Theodore Roosevelt on an unknown river in South America after his loss of his final run for president. I don't know how the majority of the expedition ever made it out alive. The sad part is that many of the expedition's tourbles were due to very poor planning, or rather a lack of planning to begin with. Roosevelt, it seems, thought it was not going to be that big a deal.
